Stable Career

I had a good stable career for over 30 years with a company that provided excellent superannuation benefits.

In 1999 management decided to restructure the section I was in, and I was given the option of relocating to another city or leaving with a redundancy package. After attending many lectures and having long discussions with colleagues in the same predicament, I realised that my assets were sufficient to allow me to retire but not to have any choice of lifestyle.  Over the next 4 years I managed to find new short term positions in the company and so delay the difficult retirement decision.

During these last years with the company I was involved with hundreds of people trying to manage redundancy, retirement or new employment.
 It was during this stressful period of company restructuring that I met James. His company was to provide financial advice, as part of an information package, to employees to be made redundant. James’s approach was different to other financial planners that the company sourced to advise its employees. Other financial planners concentrated on the mechanics of managing assets, where as James helped you understand that asset management was a way to achieve the lifestyle you wanted.

In 2001 I decided to get a financial plan from James and see if I would have enough income to retire, or if I needed to continue working. I met with James and he developed a financial plan for me that would, finance my living costs, a new lifestyle involving a lot of travel and a growth of my assets.

In 2002 I was offered redundancy again, this time because of my research and the financial plan James had provided for me in 2001, the decision to retire was very easy.

I accepted the redundancy and asked James to implement the financial plan we had discussed.

James made my financial transition to retirement simple and totally stress free.

He was always available to explain in plain English any questions that I had and kept me informed about the movement of my assets to my investment portfolio.

I have just finalised travel plans for my next trip to the Northern Territory, but I have not decided when I will return. This freedom to choose my lifestyle is only possible because of my financial independence.

Thank you James, over the last four years the financial plan has worked successfully.
I have had the income to travel, spend more time with my family and not have to worry about my finances.
